CEO of AFRIpads, Joris Boon, took over leadership of the Ugandan-based social enterprise from the founders in 2022. He is proud to carry on the legacy of AFRIpads as the leading manufacturer of reusable sanitary pads and underwear in Africa, a position it has gained through dedicated efforts to focus on quality, safety and human centered design after launching 14 years ago. Joris was born in Tanzania and even though he spent most of his student and early career years working in the Netherlands, he continued to invest in SMEs in East Africa and around the world. Previously a founder of his own law firm and managing director of an Investment Fund, he uses his experience and expertise to focus on growth and sustainable scaling for AFRIpads. As a father of three boys, he takes it as a personal task to engage men and boys in the conversation around menstrual health and hygiene. Joris believes there is a market-based solution for reducing or eliminating period poverty and ultimately the gender inequality gap.
