Cyril Ferrand

FAO Resilience Team Leader for Eastern Africa, FAO

Cyril Ferrand is a French citizen who has been working for the Emergencies and Resilience Division of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) since 1999. He covered major food and livelihoods crises, including, the Great Lakes Region, the Balkan Region, The Russian Federation (Caucasus), Afghanistan, eastern and southern Africa regions, as well as Palestine. Between 2014 and 2017, he occupied the position of Global Food Security Cluster Coordinator (FAO and WFP co-leadership). Since 2017, he leads the FAO Resilience hub for eastern Africa, based in Nairobi – Kenya.

However, his humanitarian experience started in 1994 in France in support of economic refugees and asylum seekers and continued overseas since 1996 when he joined the international Non-Governmental Organization Action Contre la Faim (ACF) as a food security expert until 1999.

Cyril Ferrand is holding a University degree in Sciences (biology and environment) and an advanced University degrees in Agronomy, Sustainable Agriculture and Rural development from the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS), part of the University of London.
