Regional Coordinator, Chemicals, Waste and Air Quality

Alexander is a Programme Management Officer and Regional Coordinator for the Chemicals and Pollution Action Sub-Programme in the Africa Office in UNEP Nairobi. This unit promotes sound management of chemicals and waste, as well as improved air quality in Africa to contribute to a healthier environment and better health for all. It accomplishes this by ensuring that the African countries develop or implement relevant policies, and legal, institutional, and fiscal strategies and mechanisms. Alex has been managing projects and programmes for the past 19 years that included the provision of technical assistance to Parties at national, sub-regional and regional levels under the Basel, Rotterdam, and Stockholm Conventions Secretariat. He also co-led the Household Waste Partnership under the Basel Convention. He is from Zimbabwe and holds a Master’s of Science Degree in Food Science and a BSc (Honours) in Chemistry Degree.
